Apple, Moto, Cingular lined up to launch iTunes phone

Apple Computer and Motorola plan to introduce a phone next week that runs Apple's iTunes music software, according to an analyst briefed by industry officials.

Phone users will be able to transfer songs from their personal computers as well as buy songs from the iTunes site, but it is expected that the downloads on the phone would cost more than it is for computers.

Maxtor bypasses PC with home network drive

Reuters reports that Maxtor is selling hard disks that act as home-entertainment hubs whether or not they are connected to a personal computer. Consumers can use the hard drive to manage different music playlists in up to 10 rooms of a house. For movies, separate family members could be watching up to four different movies at a time.
